The Fraga Family
The five members of the Fraga family lived in a small apartment of about sixty square meters, where three nationalities and three languages mixed at once. I wanted to tell a story of migration—so often seen from my country’s point of view—but this time from the other side.
They quickly accepted me, made me part of their family, and allowed me to document their daily life with my camera. Very soon, I stopped being “the photographer from Spain” and became one of them.
I photographed this story in 1997 and 1998, documenting the life of a Galician-Cuban family in Queens, New York City.
