Three Kings Dancers

In 2018, the publisher Acentral Folque asked me to photograph the Danzas de Reis of Riofrío on January 5th. Throughout that year I returned to Riofrío, in the province of Pontevedra, many times to photograph the dancers again. While shooting this project, I became aware of the richness and visual possibilities of dance traditions in the northwestern Iberian Peninsula.

The Danzas de Reis of Riofrío are an immaterial cathedral: an ancestral rite that has reached us almost unchanged, performed today by the same protagonists in the same way as centuries ago. Os Danzantes dos Reis was published as a book in December 2018.
